TINKERCAD AND 3D PRINTING.
Today in class we learned about 3D printing. Although I am not particularly a computer person, they are extremely interesting to learn about as this is the direction that our future is going. Our goal in class was to design a 3D form which would allow light to pass through it. By the end of the week we will be printing these. We designed our forms using a program called Tinkercad. I have heard of the program but never used it before. I am really excited about this class as we are learning new things every day.

The white abstracted shape is a shape that I started with. I added the orange cylinders. You can experiment with different views by right clicking the mouse and scrolling around the screen. You can also middle click the mouse for alternative views.

Since Tinkercad was totally new to me, I wanted to get used to it by using repetitive shapes. I continued to use the cylinders. I also put holes in the cylinders by adding another cylinder, scaling it to be smaller that the first one. We learned how create holes in our cylinders which I had fun experimenting with.

I wanted to make my abstracted shape more interesting visually but still wanted it to allow light to pass through. I added the blue circle. I found it particularly interesting to use the mouse to explore different view points.
Overall I am proud of what I have accomplished today, as it was all 100% new to me. |
